*This post is part of my { capsule } post series; more on that at the end!
OH MY GIRL is a rookie k-pop girl group who released the music video that accompanies their second mini-album yesterday! I've been a fan since their debut with Cupid, a very cute love song that is totally different from the song they just came out with. This song is called Closer and it's filled with gorgeous, dreamy cinematography and stunning vocals.
It's rare for me to enjoy a k-pop video this much but Oh My Girl stole my heart with this video. ;__; Their angelic vocals (YooA and Seunghee are angels!!), sharp choreography, and breathtaking visuals make this music video such a lovely experience.
The group of girls in white dresses dancing in the middle of the room is a bit overdone in k-pop but the dark lighting and styling of this video adds a fresh twist to an otherwise overdone concept!
Please give this song a listen! I hope you can support Oh My Girl
this is Binnie, she's my bias! ♡ I also really like YooA, Seunghee, and Arin!
Introducing: { capsule } posts !
This is a new type of post I am trying out; I thought of the idea when I felt discouraged that I couldn't keep my blog as active because of my heavy workload this year. { capsule } posts will focus on a specific topic (like this music video) and be shorter than the usual post. I hope this can allow me to share interesting topics with you guys and help to keep my blog active! c:
So! To wrap up this post, here is a question for you!
Do you like girl groups? If so, please share your fav(s)!
IU rehearsing for Mudo festival! src: iustudio.net
Happy October everyone! I just got home after taking my SAT subject test so I decided to write this post to de-stress after my busy school week before I tackle my weekend work. Thanks to everyone for the good luck wishes on the last post!I think I did fairly well; the real test was much easier than the practice tests that I had stressed over.
Here are some of my favorite songs from this past September. Hope you enjoy!
Leon // IU & Park Myungsoo
→ genre: pop
I mentioned how I became a fan of IU through Infinity Challenge in my August in Music so of course I greatly enjoyed the song she produced for the Mudo Music Festival! For those unfamiliar with Korean variety shows, this particular segment of Infinity Challenge had the members produce a song with a popular Korean producer and the comedian Park Myungsoo was paired up with IU.
src: yoonkb.tistory.com
This song pays homage to the cult classic film Léon: The Professional, with IU's parts describing Mathilda's thoughts and Myungsoo's parts describing Leon's thoughts. Her soft, sweet voice complements Park Myungsoo's husky voice really well! (I never thought I would use the adjective "husky" to describe PMS but there's really no other word for his voice lol.) Her "lalala"'s and breathy French lyrics are so pretty. This song was my jam for the longest time; go give it a listen!
Good Luck to All // J rabbit
→ genre: indie This is a pretty, uplifting k-indie song that is calming but doesn't put you to sleep. The opening piano chords make it sound very lively. I sometimes start my morning with this song playing while I brush my teeth etc. and it never fails to cheer me up and help me get ready for the school day.
Steven's Shield // aivi & surasshu
→ genre: electronic/ soundtrack So I started watching Steven Universe last month and I'm utterly obsessed! Everything from the diverse character designs to the gorgeous scenery/art style is so beautiful (no spoilers please- I'm only on the 17th episode haha). This is the soundtrack for Steven's shield and it's so dreamy and calming; I love how they included the opening tune in this soundtrack! The soundtracks that aivi & surasshu make are so uplifting I'm seriously thankful for their music.
Mrs Potato Head // Melanie Martinez
→ genre: alternative pop This was from Melanie Martinez's Cry Baby album in which each song tackles an adult theme through a dark twist on an object or scene from childhood. This one compares plastic surgery to the Mrs Potato Head toys. Her voice is very sweet and her lyrics are very clever- I'm looking forward to her future music!
Rain // Lim Kim
→ genre: indie Lim Kim is a Korean female artist who I got into in September! Her voice is very soothing and pretty; she's seriously so underrated. This music video is also so aesthetically pleasing; please take a look! The song is very calming but she also has others that are catchy and the type that get stuck in your head. My other favorites are Love Game, Awoo, and Goodbye 20.
So that's it for September! Do you guys like these music recommendations? Please let me know! I think I'll make them a regular thing since it's fun to share my music tastes!
I know it's a bit late to be posting this but I was inspired by Minae's Music Recap post I listened to a lot of music in August especially because I had so much free time ^^;
1. Mannequin - Primary ft. Beenzino & Suran.
This was one of my absolute favorite songs this summer! /coughs I may or may not have written my entire common app essay with this song on repeat in the background...
This song lightly criticizes South Korea's plastic surgery culture, using an extended metaphor comparing girls to mannequins who use the street as their runway. I really like the lyric, "Manne manne quin Manne money queen / I want you, what's your style?" The wordplay in this song is genius!! Also the line, "Want everything including the obvious smile" resonates with me since East Asian beauty standards are so cut-and-dry. We're a culture that strives for perfection with all of our focus on academic perfection and now with the struggle for physical perfection becoming increasingly prominent... it's easy to see why people think that achieving that perfection through surgery will make them happy. I have no personal objections against people going for plastic surgery (I myself have thought a lot about double eyelid surgery and have read a lot about double jaw surgery etc); I just think it's important to reflect on our own standards and see whether they are becoming a problem. Aah I could write a whole post on this (maybe I will later lol) but let's focus on the song right now!
Anyway I also really like the music video it's just so aesthetically pleasing! This is the first time I've heard of Suran but I am absolutely in love with her voice And Beenzino's rap is on point.
2. Lion Heart - Girls' Generation
This is legit the first Girls' Generation comeback I've enjoyed since before Mr Mr ;__; Some people say they don't think SNSD delivered on this song but I love it so much It's just so catchy and pretty! I love the mellow retro feel and the chorus ("Tell me why~~"). The visuals are stunning honestly SNSD never fails on their visuals (still can't believe how they managed that construction worker look in CMIYC...). And the outfits are gorgeous- major props to their styling team. I actually never really got into GG (like I still don't know all of their names;;;;) but I watched them on Running Man and Weekly Idol and they're definitely a group I want to start stanning ^^
3. Talk Talk - Girls' Generation
While we're on the topic of Girls' Generation I also wanted to include this song from their Lion Heart album! It has a more serious vibe than Lion Heart and it's also really catchy!
4. Comes and Goes - Hyukoh
I heard about Hyukoh from the show Infinity Challenge and I've been in love ever since. The singer, Ohhyuk, has such a unique mellow husky voice that gives each of their songs a flavor that is distinctly Hyukoh. I also really like the songs Bawling and Ohio.
5. Back and Forth 30 Min - Giriboy ft. Shin Jisu
This is a funny, slightly bittersweet song about a guy who likes a girl but the two are close enough that it's awkward to try a romantic relationship, even though he already acts like he's in a relationship with her (paying for movie tickets, canceling plans for her etc). The wordplay is also really clever here- Giriboy represents the closeness of their relationship with the distance "back and forth 30 min" and the song ends with the girl putting a funny twist on that metaphor- go take a look!
6. Don't Be Shy - Primary ft. Choa & Iron
Another song by Primary! Okay this song has just been my jam Choa sounds so good here. Honestly I don't know what she's doing in the video and I haven't taken a close look at the lyrics but... it sounds good and I'm happy with that *shrugs*. Also Iron's rapping is so sexy
7. Good Day by IU
I'm super late on the IU hype train but I love this song so much! I'm officially an IU stan... Her voice is so sweet and she is so talented and pretty and skillful she's my ultimate #goals in life. Her voice has this sweet bell-like quality that I can't really describe but it's so beautiful. And of course I have to mention those 3 high notes!! Seriously awesome.
And that's my August round-up! What songs are your current faves?
Thanks for reading! Leave a comment and link your blog and I'll def check it out!
Welcome to my first post! I've abandoned my old account~ starting fresh I'm going to try writing a new post every Friday afternoon. I've started on making this blog this afternoon but it's already 9pm now that I've finished opps. I spent so much time looking for a new blogskin and ended up using my old one
This week on Sunday I deleted my tumblr bc tumblr was rlly a pain to maintain. I think I'll rejoin social networks once I feel like they won't distract me to crazy extents~
In school today I had a stat and a chem test;; My stat test isn't graded yet but I already know I failed because I couldn't even finish one of the questions and it was a two-question test;; I feel so mad at myself because I was trying to figure out one part of the problem, and only after I turned in the test did I remember that I didn't even have to figure out that part because there was a calculator function that could find the answer for me;; I was so mad I wanted to scream because I knew how to do all of the parts after that part but I couldn't do them because I couldn't figure out that one part. Aaaaah and I have the mock AP exam next week so I'm going to study really hard this weekend I only have about 2 grades going into this marking period for stat so I have to do really well on the mock so I can pull up my grade!! Just thinking about it stressed me out;; I want to slap my past self for not trying harder in the 2nd and 3rd marking periods ;;;; I think I did okay on the chem test although every time I think I did well I end up getting a bad grade
I've been getting into a singer called Daoko! She is a 16 year old Japanese rapper signed under LOW HIGH WHO? Productions. I've never really liked rap before but her voice is so cute and soft so I like listening to it!! She's the cutest rapper ever And she released her first album when she was 15!! I'm 16 rn and that's really amazing to me. Most of the song titles are in Japanese so I download all of them without ever learning the names (oops) LOL. One of my favorites is this one called試験一週間前. I don't know why the title is in traditional Chinese even though the song is in Japanese? LOL The cat in the video is so cute I want to hug him
This is a song called Boy! Her voice is so cute!!
There is another song that has been on repeat for me the whole of this week~ It's a cover of Fly Me to the Moon by Ukulele Picnic I've never listened to the original by Frank Sinatra but this coveris so cute !!
If you made it through this whole post, wow!! If you'd like to, you can leave a comment by clicking on the (#) comments text beneath the title (a pop-up window will show up)
